 So update for the end of June! I'm getting pretty close as you can see. I only have the ceiling to paint and install and add the embellishments and flourishes and then install the chandeliers you'll see below. All color choices etc were based off my research of passenger testimony, her sister ship the Olympic and historical books like Voices of the Carpathia, being an account of wreck sighted, and Shipbuilder which is basically a descriptive book for ships of the time. So tables built, planters and plants done, clock done, mirror done, carpeting installed and almost all the furniture is built besides the armchairs which will be coming. As you will see below I just finished the arm chairs with exposed arms. It's funny while putting in this furniture you really realize what a floating palace this was. SO MANY UPDATES! I've been super lazy in updating and I apologize but here's a ton of photos to make up for it. I'm getting closer and closer! First off, we have the arrival of the fabric that I had custom ordered. I spent forever in photoshop (as i'm a total novice) but eventually cleaned up and copied the fabric that will be on the spoon back "dining" chairs in the room.  Then from books like "Shipbuilder" and "Voices of the Carpathia" I deduced what I think the color of these chairs were.  It was described as a feminine yellowish color. As its silk it came out somewhat "goldish" but I actually really like it and think it seems quite fancy.  Then, as I'm a perfectionist I wasn't happy with the Alcove. I thought it seemed uneven in places which would take away from the "realism" for me.  So I remeasured and recut the wood, stripped the moldings and appliques and columns, and did this twice over.  I have started adding the fancier trims and appliques to the walls. I have some little fruit molds coming soon to add to these as the swags on the Titanic were fruits and leaves etc... Right now you just see the leaves. (The water glass holds little pieces of wood I don't wanna throw out :P )  The alcove is coming along nicely. I'm really happy with some of the inventive ways I've gotten around this difficult beast. It was such a unique design. Now, the question is do I add stairs? In the 1912 edition of Shipbuilder it describes the alcove as having a tiny step leading up to it to make it appear even more elegant and special. However, all photos don't show a step? However, most of the photos were from the Olympic in which the design COULD'VE varied... Also, please ignore some of my horrible renderings on the walls. I have started the Reading and Writing Room! In my opinion one of the loveliest Public Rooms on the ship. Used mostly by women (sort of their Smoking Room minus the smoking) I think it's one of the most underrated of the Public Rooms.  I've gotten the skeleton framework done and now have started adding some of the carvings and fixtures. Lots more to do but I love when the form starts to take shape!                     Here you'll see the pillar I built and the fireplace frame work. I'm also starting to add trim and moldings at this point  Here's the alcove starting to take shape. I still have no idea how I'm going to carve the round windows without a jigsaw but we'll see! You can also see the first writing desk I made for the room. My latest is a 1st Class Suite reproduction on the RMS Titanic. This is based off 5 variant staterooms that were on the ship including the Strauss Suite which you will recognize in the sitting room from the Millionaire Suites.
